Via Animal Petitions: A dog was fatally scalded in a shower, allegedly by Sacramento man Ignatius Chavarria, who has been charged with animal torture and malicious maiming. After not being let out of his crate as scheduled, the dog, Tucker, relieved himself in the crate and Chavarria became upset with him. He placed the dog in the shower and turned the water on before leaving him alone for ten minutes with the shower door closed. When he returned, Tucker had already suffered third degree burns and kidney failure. He later had to be euthanized. Urge the district attorney to prosecute this man to the fullest extent for his alleged participation in fatally scalding a dog.

Tucker belonged to the suspect’s girlfriend who initially contacted poison control after Chavarria wrongly told her the cause of the burns was likely an adverse effect of shampoo. According to Chavarria, the incident was accidental and he did not intend for the water to reach such high temperatures while out of the room.

Thus far, the alleged events suggest that Chavarria acted out of anger and sought to punish the dog. Accidental or not, his actions are disgusting and ultimately resulted in the dog’s untimely death. House pets are forced to rely on the care of humans, and any abuse of this power in which an animal is forced to suffer should result in proper punishment. Urge the district attorney to prosecute this man to the fullest extent and ensure he is never able to live with another animal.

Dear District Attorney Schubert,

http://on.news10.net/1DYAu0s via @news10_ca

The alleged actions of Ignatius Chavarria in which a dog was fatally scalded are deeply disturbing. This is certainly not the first situation of its kind in which an owner acted out of anger with blatant disregard for another living being. The poor dog, Tucker, was forced to suffer tremendously for hours before being taken to a veterinarian where he was ultimately euthanized. Please prosecute Chavarria for the inhumane conditions he forced a dog to suffer through and ensure he is never able to cohabitate with another animal.

Similar cases of animal abuse have become increasingly common. Advancements in technology ensure news of such events reach a wide audience, giving us an opportunity to voice an opinion and end this epidemic of animal abuse. It is within your power to ensure the individuals that stand before you understand the severity of their actions.

Caring for an animal is a privilege, not a right. The public must know that the abuse of this privilege will have severe consequences. I urge you to do everything in your power to prosecute this man to the fullest extent and ban him from ever cohabitating with an animal in the future.

SACRAMENTO – A man who investigators say forced a small dog to stand under a scalding shower because it pooped in its crate was charged Tuesday with felony animal torture and malicious maiming.

Ignatius Llewellyn “Ignacio” Chavarria, 31, was arrested Tuesday morning by Sacramento police at the midtown fourplex where the crime allegedly occurred Nov. 7.

According to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Chavarria admitted being upset because Tucker, a 4-year-old Yorkie-Maltese mix that belonged to his girlfriend, made a mess in the crate after the girlfriend failed to come home from work on her lunch break to take the dog outside.
Chavarria told investigators he intended to give Tucker a bath and placed him in the shower, turning the water “all the way hot” before backing off the temperature and testing it with his hand.

Chavarria said he then placed the detachable shower head on the floor of the shower and left the bathroom to take a phone call on the front porch while Tucker was confined in the shower by the sliding doors.

He said he left the dog alone for 10 minutes and returned when he heard Tucker howling.

Chavarria reportedly later told his girlfriend that Tucker’s missing hair and extremely red skin were the likely reaction of the shampoo he had used to bathe the dog.

The girlfriend, on the advice of a poison control operator, gave Tucker a second bath before Chavarria admitted he had left the dog unattended in a hot shower, according to the investigative report.

At 8 p.m., Tucker was taken to an animal hospital where two veterinarians noted dead tissue across the shoulder region and third degree burns on 80 percent of the dog’s body. Tucker was also suffering kidney failure, they said, and they euthanized him the following day.

Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter director Gina Knepp said the criminal investigation began after they were notified of Tucker’s death by the girlfriend’s mother.

“I can’t imagine the pain and suffering, the noise this animal must have been making during this event,” Knepp said. “The whimpering, the crying, the howling. How anybody could stand by and listen to that or do that to begin with — I can’t comprehend that.”

During a search of the home in December, investigators noted the water temperature at the shower head was 143 degrees after running for two minutes, which they said could produce a scalding burn on a human in five seconds.

Tucker’s owner responded to a text message seeking comment on Chavarria’s arrest. “I do not feel comfortable talking with anyone at this time,” she wrote.

Chavarria’s mother, who was at the fourplex during the arrest and had occasionally taken care of Tucker, defended her son.

“He said the dog passed away. They gave the dog a bath but I don’t know the whole story behind it,” Sandra Evans said. “I don’t think it was intentional. My son loved that dog.”

Chavarria was being held in the Sacramento County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Knepp, the shelter director, said her staff received more than 300 complaints of felony or misdemeanor animal cruelty last year, but without a dedicated investigator only about a dozen cases made it to the district attorney for prosecution.

  1. Our moronic worthless court system does nothing to make the punishment fit the crime – that’s why these degenerate genetic non-humans operate. First, they need to be sterilized so their rottten genes don’t produce another – then they need to receive the same treatment as they gave their victems. If they survive – lock ’em up till they’re off to hell. It’s not much different, is it where the islamucks are being allowed to savagely rape and viciously murder men, women and children daily and NOTHING is being done except blah, blah, b.s. Oh, they know exactly what they are doing by allowing this world class carnage endangering the very existance of God’s people. Wake up America – this is a war perpetuated by satan himself to conquer for himself the world that God created. I know as do all with the spiritual gene that God will intervene but I believe we shouldn’t sit by idely and do nothing. God blessed America and the British Empire but both have allowed evil corruption to take over and now it is ONLY HIM that can bail us out so QUIT AIDING AND ABETTING THE ENEMY!!!!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this info, and for all your hard work exposing these monsters.
Here’s some updated info. I will be attending the preliminary hearing this week:

The preliminary hearing is 8/21, 8:30 am. Please attend if you can. Spread the word. We need to make it known that ANIMALS MATTER, ABUSE MUST HAVE CONSEQUENCES!

Please, everyone: if you could take just a minute RIGHT NOW to send a quick email to the DDA handling the Tucker dog abuse case. We should let him know how we feel as soon as possible. IF YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE 8/21 HEARING THAT WOULD BE GREAT!

    Animal abuse case against:
    Ignatius Llewellyn Cavarria
    Preliminary 8/21, 8:30 am,720 9th Street, Dept.9 (Sacramento).

This is the one in Sacramento, where the sick dog (he had kidney failure) was forced to stand under scalding water in the shower for at least 10 minutes! As if having to go through kidney problems wasn’t enough for this poor dog! He deserves JUSTICE, and he deserves the publicity. This dog never should have had to sufferer way he did.

We might be able to convince the court system that our community does care about how animals are treated. And they might realize, despite the lack of public interest in this case, we are serious when we say animal abuse is UNACCEPTABLE.

Please leave a friendly message letting him know how important it is that justice is served!

    Thank you!

  3. UPDATE ON TRIAL IN SACRAMENTO: Frustrating, but please keep Tucker in your thoughts as we head toward the trial (which will happen, it’s just hard to know the exact date). I will keep you posted as I learn more. Here’s the update as of 11/14:

?The trial will probably not go on the 17th. the “victim” (Tucker’s owner) is leaving on vacation the following week. Hoping to get a courtroom and get assigned out for the 30th, but I won’t know until the week of the 17th.
I will not know when the trial starts until the moment we get assigned a court room. That may happen on the 17th the 18th or the 19th. It’s impossible to say. I wish I had a better answer for you but there is no way to give a definitive answer when it comes to court. As soon as I know something I promise I will let you know.

(So, I’m going to gamble here & bet on the trial starting on the 30th. Hoping you can all be somewhat flexible & attend when we finally do get a solid date. Thanks!)

  4. Chavarria court case if anyone can attend 1/15 look up info at sac county courthouse we need people to show up and show the DA the community does not like animal abuse and to charge him to the fullest!!

    1. Nothing yet. He’s still playing the system because he can. Possible trial in February 2018. While out on bail he managed to get himself additional charges of spousal abuse. He’ll end up paying more time for those crimes, but at least they’ll mention the animal abuse/torture of Tucker.

  5. 10 years in prison!

Front Street Animal Shelter – City of Sacramento

    Justice for Tucker!

Ignatius Chavarria was sentenced to 10 years in state prison today after pleading to felony animal abuse as well as felony domestic violence. His plea involved his admission to committing a violent strike offense. After serving his prison sentence, Chavarria will be banned from owning, possessing, residing with, maintaining or caring for any animals for 10 years.

In 2013, Chavarria got upset with his girlfriend’s 4-year-old neutered Maltese mix named “Tucker” because he had an accident in his crate after waiting in it to be relieved for several hours. Chavarria abusively scalded Tucker by holding him in a 143-degree hot shower, and then closing the door to confine him without a way to escape. Tucker suffered third-degree burns over 80% of his body. He was humanely euthanized the following day to end his suffering from the increasingly painful burns. Initially the case went unreported, but eventually a felony charge was filed. After bailing out on the animal abuse case, Chavarria reoffended by body slamming a female date onto concrete pavement. The victim sustained a broken hip, which required surgery. Chavarria’s bail was increased, but not enough to avoid his bailing out a second time. After his second release, he again committed domestic violence on a different female victim.

Special appreciation is owed to DA Criminal Investigator Joyce Thorgrimson. Due to her limitless diligence and investigative skills, the felony animal cruelty case was filed although it did not include the benefit of a forensic necropsy. Tucker’s remains had already been cremated.

In the last 20+ years, statistics have been compiled showing that 71% of abused women report that their partners had killed, abused or threatened to abuse at least one of their animals. In a 2007 study, 12 different states in the U.S. reported that up to 48% of female domestic violence victims stay with their partner because they are worried about the safety of their companion animals.

Praise to Judge Timothy M. Frawley who handled today’s sentencing.

    1. Yep, they are getting tougher and this guy is obviously a psychopath! I would execute him if I were in charge, there is no place in society for evil like that
