A nun has sparked outrage on social media after she posted a photo of herself proudly posing with a buck she shot on a hunting trip.
Sister John Paul Bauer from the Erie Catholic Diocese in Pennsylvania prayed the Rosary as she waited in her tree stand Monday, the first day of deer season.
And when a herd of doe arrived along with two large bucks, Sister Bauer took aim and shot the 10-point buck that had a 16-inch spread.
Now, a post on the diocese’s Facebook page of the nun with her trophy killing has more than 1 million views.
“Was your God not clear when he said, ‘Thou shalt not kill?’” wrote Daniel Cunningham.
But Bauer, a teacher at Elk County Catholic High School in St. Mary’s, said she is amazed at the furor her photo has fetched
“In St. Mary’s, this is what you do,” she told Erie News Now.
Sister John Paul Bauer, from the Erie Catholic Diocese in Pennsylvania, sparked controversy after posing with the animal.
“You go hunting. Everybody goes hunting. The coach, myself, the students.”
And she believes divine intervention brought the animal within her sights.
“I’ve always prayed the Rosary on the tree stand. That’s a tradition,” she added.
“You get up in the morning. You pray the Rosary in the tree stand. So, I just think the Blessed Mother did smile upon me.”
In total, Bauer says she has hunted three deer and a bear since she began the hobby five years ago. SHE IS PROUD AND HAS ZERO EMPATHY AND SHE IS TEACHING CHILDREN.
