Two puppies, belonging to a couple in Weakley, Tennessee, died after being left outside in freezing weather, reported Tuesday’s WBBJTV News. The puppies belonged to 32-year-old Amber Davidson and 27-year-old Joshua Dailey, who are now facing animal cruelty charges.

According to Thunderbolt Broadcasting, authorities went to the Dresden couple’s residence at 142 Kester Road and found five pit bulls who showed signs of neglect. The dogs at the residence were found to be un-vaccinated and lacked proper shelter and inadequate food. The surviving dogs were seized from the couple and taken to an area animal shelter.

According to the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office, Captain Terry McDade stated that he had visited the property multiple times to investigate reports from the couple’s neighbors about the dogs’ welfare. McDade stated, “Two dogs out front they were skinny with their ribs sticking out one had been regurgitating I had been out there twice and both times the dog was sick and had been sick inside the house.” No word on why the dogs were not seized prior to the death of the puppies.

McDade told WBBJTV that Dailey admitted that the dogs should have been provided with better care, “He did admit to the puppies dying because he felt like he should have taken them in the house and he didn’t.”

In addition to the animal cruelty charges, the discovery of meth and hydrocodone, resulted in drug-related charges for Joshua Dailey.
