Atlanta– A Sandy Springs man accused of killing his girlfriend Andrea Jill Armintrout’s pet Pomeranian and then using the dead animal as a weapon to beat the woman has admitted his guilt. Emmanuel Alfredo Tadeo, 28, pled guilty as charged during plea proceedings Thursday morning to Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Animal Cruelty (felony), Animal Cruelty (misdemeanor) and Battery.

The incident happened on May 19, 2012 at the victim’s Roswell Road Apartment complex in Sandy Springs. Defendant Tadeo, upset about a phone call he had just received, turned his anger on his girlfriend with whom he had history of abusing. The woman was kicked and beaten while she cowered on the floor. Tadeo also kicked and stomped the woman’s pet dog ‘Murphy’ when it rushed to its owner’s defense and at one point picked the dog up and flung it across the room. The woman begged Tadeo to allow her to take the injured dog to the veterinarian for treatment. Defendant Tadeo instead took the dog outside and broke its neck. He returned to the apartment with the dead animal and told his girlfriend that he had put the dog ‘out of its misery’ so that he no longer needed treatment. Tadeo then began to beat the woman with the dead dog. The victim eventually left the house and reported the attack to police. In jail conversations played before the Court, Tadeo can be heard telling the victim to get on her knees and apologize for reporting him to police.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shawn LaGrua who presided over proceedings accepted Tadeo’s plea, but withheld sentencing until the defendant can undergo a psychological evaluation. A sentencing date has not yet been determined.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jill Hollander who leads the Crimes Against Animals Unit with assistance from DA Investigator Natalie Brunner. Detective J.T. Williams of the Sandy Springs Police Department led the initial investigation.

The only thing a psychological evaluation will prove is that he is guilty by virtue of insanity or guilty but not insane. Either way he is guilty. Animal welfare laws need to ENFORCED. And people who kill innocent animals go on to kill people.

  2. Asshat..i sure hope that he goes to a prison where they have animal training for inmates ;he needs to bear some of the same torture. Evaluation? Hes nuts,so what? He will not get better with any kindness;evil begets evil.I have no sympathy for such people..none.
